Tablets for rural schools
The Challenge
- Many rural schools in Kenya have insufficient funds, requiring five to ten students to share each textbook.
- Computer labs are rare. Students cannot learn basic computer skills or use educational software .
- The shortage of textbooks and lack of computer facilities put students at a distinct learning disadvantage.
The Initiative
Test the efficacy of equipping students with inexpensive tablets loaded with textbooks and other free interactive educational software.
Implementation
Supply a Rumie tablet to each student and teacher at a rural girls’ secondary school and train them in its uses. Assess changes in test scores and computer proficiency at the end of a year.
