CAST Tests
CAST (Computer Assisted Statistics Textbooks) introduced a testing system which allowed the randomised exercises to be taken in a test environment. Maseno University in Kenya got involved at a very early stage in the testing of this system with MSc Statistics students having it as an additional component of their coursework.
The tests were run from a local server. However, there are trials currently to see if the CAST tests can be administered online through a Learning Management System.
Unlike the CAST exercises, CAST tests gave feedback only after a student has submitted responses to all questions. The tests were timed and random questions selected for each topic that students were examined on. This allowed the administration of the CAST tests over a period of more than a day. The CAST tests also graded student performance to the benefit of both the lecturer and students.
